Environmental minister announces mandatory packaging framework for Australia

The Australian Government will soon be introducing mandatory packaging design standards and targets. On June 9, the Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek announced strict new government rules for packaging with a focus to minimise packaging waste, boost recycled content and regulate out the use of harmful chemicals in food-grade packaging.

Packaging targets will no longer be voluntary, but a requirement for all businesses, making the industry responsible for the packaging it places on market.
